Lamellar refractive keratoplasty involves the placement of a lenticule on or within the cornea to alter its refractive power, usually by changing its anterior curvature. Refractive keratoplasty is the removal of a section of cornea from a patient or donor that is shaped to the desired curvature and inserted either between layers of or on the patient's cornea to change its curvature and correct optical errors. Lamellar keratoplasty involves replacement of your damaged or diseased anterior corneal stroma. Lamellar keratoplasty has the advantage of being primarily an extraocular procedure that preserves the host endothelium.
